Thriving: Learning is Key

Each month I’ve been sharing a characteristic found in most people who report they are thriving. When researchers study people who have a strong sense of well-being, one key characteristic they often report is a love of learning.

God has designed us to be curious; to wonder at the marvel of his creation, and to explore! Have you ever watched a child study an earthworm or a bird’s nest? Children are often captivated by the unknown and they aren’t afraid to ask questions.

The root word of question is ‘quest’. Life is a quest, a search for knowledge and understanding.

Scripture tells us that God asked King Solomon what he would like and King Solomon asked for wisdom. He was one of the wisest men who ever lived. And what did he say wisdom was?

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10

You and I have the one thing that is truly needful, knowledge of our Savior.  The Holy One lives in us, and gives us true understanding. This gives us the liberty to live life fully and to explore the incredible world he has asked us to live in and steward.

Socrates stated that “Wonder begins in curiosity.”

What are you curious about? What is something you would like to study and learn more about? If you are finding it difficult to think of something I’d encourage you to daydream for a bit. Let your mind wander, dream big!
